Batman set of 9 cards now for sale

For my Sketch a Day I’m compiling sets of cards with a theme.  The 9 set series of Batman 2.5” X 3.5” cards are now for sale. Cards are $10 each but I give a discount if the full set of 9 is purchased for $80.

To purchase all 9 cards please visit my Sketch a Day blog where you can purchase this through paypal.

Da Studio

Thought it would be nice to share my new studio with all of you.  Just bought a house and it came with a fully converted garage that works perfectly as a studio.  Nice touch with the washer and dryer conveniently thrown into the mix…and since I’m “home all day” drawing silly pictures it’s perfect to do the laundry for the wife, groan.

Aside from that I’m still working on Black Dawn 5 and continuing on with my Sketch a Day blog.  A lot of them are still for sale and I’ve even gone down the road of putting together a few series of cards that comes in sets of 9.

Other than that nothing too new to report…oh, except for a monster getting whacked by a team of 6 slick ocean mammals:)

Black Dawn 4

The 4th book in the Black Dawn series is about 95% completed and will be shipping off to print in a week or two.  Book 5 for Black Dawn is currently underway.

Here’s a peak at the cover for Book 4.

Latest and greatest

Halfway through Black Dawn book 4 this week. Looking forward to seeing another book off to print soon. Thomas Bonvillain continues to bring in great coloring work as we have book 2 recolored and ready to go soon.

Working on locking in some follow on projects to Black Dawn. Still up in the air at the moment but it looks like there are some good leads that I’m working on. More to follow on that.

Here’s a sneak peak at Black Dawn 4.

Sneak at Black Dawn 4

Here’s a sneak pic for Black Dawn 4.

Black Dawn 4

Black Dawn book 4 is now underway.  I’m still working on the 6 issue series with writer John O’Connor and our amazing colorist Thomas Bonvillain.  It’s getting quite exciting getting deeper into this book as things begin to pick up speed and unravel.  Look for this book soon.

Black Dawn book 3 going to print

September 12, 2010

The third book in the Black Dawn series is going to print this week and will premiere at the New York Comic Con this October.  I will not be able to attend this convention but writer John O’Connor and colorist Thomas Bonvillain can be found in Artist’s Alley.

The fourth book is now underway and what was looking to be a 5 issue series is now looking to be a 6 issue series.

Black Dawn Book 3

Currently working on the third book in the Black Dawn series.  We’re looking at about 5 books in the story at this point.  Story is progressing nicely and my artwork has taken some great leaps and bounds.  I’m expecting to wrap this book up by the end of June or middle of July.  Availability date will depend on the publisher and printing company. Roughly around Fall time frame.

For now, back to Draw draw DrAwinG.

NY Comic Con

Scheduled for now, my next convention will be the New York Comic Con at the Javitz center Oct 8-10, 2010.  I may be headed to a few others, but for now this is in my sights.

New Website

So I officially have my new and awesome website up and running. Special thanks to Wen Griffin of Green Plate Design for her hard work on making this happen. If you’re looking for a new makeover or the startup of your website, then she’s the one to contact. (Scroll to bottom of webpage for link).

I’ve also continued onward with my Sketch a Day. I only do sketches during my work days which ends up being 5 days a week. My schedule fluctuates quite a bit so it’s not always a Mon-Fri gig. But regardless it’s a lot of fun and you can find the link to it on the right side of the screen here. Join me on the Sketch a Day at the blogspot so that I have a link to your site as well:)

Working on the third book of Black Dawn at the moment. The story is getting really great and our new colorist Thomas Bonvillain is doing an amazing job. His colors are leaving me jaw dropped every time. Back to work for me. Draw draw draw.

Vesuvius Johnson “Day One”

Vesuvius Johnson CoverMy newest book Vesuvius Johnson “Day One” is now available.  Mike Naylor (creator/writer) and I will be traveling to Anaheim this weekend for the first Anaheim Comic Con to premiere the book.  If you’re in the area stop by the show and look us up in the Artist’s Alley section.

And from the depths rises…me

I’ve disappeared off the map for quite some time.  I have been extremely busy with drawing.

Since my last post in September things have been moving along nicely.  Here’s a rundown of what’s taken place over the past few months. (and I apologize for the cluttered look of this post. After an hour of trying to align it better I give up. I don’t know HTML, I don’t like HTML, and I don’t want to hear about HTML. I’m an artist Jim, not codebreaker)

It's Go Time—-At the end of July I completed the comic “It’s Go Time”.  ”It’s Go Time” is an educational comic book I was hired to do and had a blast working on.  It gave me theopportunity to draw in a simpler style and have a little more fun with.  I was getting a little too stiff and serious with my art and this was a good exercise for my brain and hand.  This in turn let me loosen up with my artwork as I transitioned back to working on Black Dawn.  You won’t be able to find “It’s Go Time” in stores, but the print run is upwards of 10,000 with talks of hundreds of thousands.  The funny part is, the book was done as an educational piece for the government which in turn didn’t have my name in the credits of the book.  Ha!  This will probably hold the record of print runs on a book of mine for a number of years and nobody will know…except anybody that reads this blog.

Vesuvius Johnson—-Following “It’s Go Time” I began work on the new phenomenal super hero known as Vesuvius Johnson.  Vesuvius Johnson is a project that has been patiently revving up since I first ran into the idea with Creator/Writer Mike Naylor.  During my 2006 round trip cross country ride on my motorcycle from New Jersey to California, I stopped by to say hello to Mike in LA.  He informed me of an idea he had and I was instantly hooked on the character known as Vesuvius Johnson.  It took a while to get the projected started but the timing was finally right last summer and we got it launched off the ground properly.  In August/September of last year we produced a 4-page preview which was introduced at the first ever Lubbock Comic Con in Texas.  Reviews and feedback were strongly positive!  Watch out world, Vesuvius Johnson is coming your way!!

Black Dawn 2—-In October of last year I was finally able to wrap things up with the second installment of Black Dawn.  We had a delay on this for a multitude of reasons.  The book was actually completed July of last year, but I began throwing around a few ideas that put it on hold.  The first was the thought of dropping the purple/yellow
borders we did in the first book.  My thoughts were that the purple/yellow borders gave the book a muddy feel and just didn’t work right.  It looked great on the computer screen…but once printed it didn’t turn out as well.  John, Bruce, and I talked long and hard about this and eventually came to the conclusion we would go with white borders for the rest of the series.  And I must say, that was a very smart direction to take.  I just got a printed copy of the book and it made a HUGE improvement in the quality of the art and look.  There were a few other delays but we finally got the book off to print.

Currently I’m 9 pages into book 3 which should see print next summer.  The story is getting deeper and more exciting as the characters begin to realize what they’ve gotten themselves into.

Vesuvius Johnson—-On December 1st Mike and I began work on the new Vesuvius Johnson comic book called “Day One”.  This is a thrilling 24 page comic that introduces the world to the beginning of Vesuvius’s exciting journey.  Details of the book remain a secret at this time, but be prepared to have your copy available April 9th.  Make sure you swing by our booth at the first ever Anaheim Comic Con on April 16-18.  We will be premiering Vesuvius Johnson Day One at the show!
